From Toilet Paper to Paint

I’ve upgraded from yesterday’s toilet paper wall art. Last night, I had a girls night with two wonderful friends from college. We went to an art class called Design With Wine in downtown Greenville.

I remember thinking that I was going to be an artist when I was young. My grandmother and two aunts are really very talented artists. Unfortunately, it turned out that my creativity manifested in different ways. So last night, I was a little apprehensive about trying my hand at painting. I don’t think I’ve picked up a real paint brush since elementary school. That’s not including the ones that I used to paint our house because there have been A LOT of those.

Here we are before the class started:

In this class, everyone paints the same painting. They take you from a blank canvas to a completed painting in 2 hours. What’s cool is that everyone’s painting turns out a little different. There’s a little room to make it your own and use the colors you like. I got pretty caught up in the process so I forgot to take pictures in the middle. Though my painting looked pretty scary in the middle anyway.

After all was said and done, I think they turned out pretty well! I learned a lot and feel like I could probably do it again. Mostly I learned not to sweat it when you mess up, you can always go back over and add more paint.

Not exactly Picasso or Van Gogh, but not bad for the first painting in 20 years? I found this tutorial on Pinterest about painting a World Market knock off and it happens to be one of a picture I’ve always kind of liked from there, so I might try it at some point. I love the colors in this… I think I could do it.
