GOOD POPCORN:
| SOURCE |
When we moved in, there were 5 rooms in our house that had popcorn ceilings… the Dining Room, Living Room, 2 Bedrooms and the Study.
I took the popcorn down in the Dining Room in September. If you need a refresher on that fun experience, click HERE.
This weekend, we tackled the ceiling in the Guest Room. Um… yeah. If you recall, the Guest Bedroom was NOT on the list of current projects that I shared with you a couple of weeks ago (click HERE):
- Master Bathroom
- Yard
- Mudroom
I’m so excited to be included in this challenge! Each blog is choosing a color and has to implement that color through fabric, décor and paint. So, I had already chosen my color for the Master Bath and the Mudroom, so I decided to put a small time out on the bathroom and tackle the Guest Bedroom.
I’m not very good at tackling a room and leaving things undone. if there’s something that needs to be fixed, I can’t just decorate around it, like the popcorn.
So down it came. Here’s how it looked before:
and now… after 2 hours of popcorn removal, 1 hour of puttying and 2 hours of sanding…
Further proof that things get worse before they get better. I hate that. Here’s what all of that dust did to the ground:
Ugh. Double Ugh.As a side challenge, I’m trying to do this room’s update for under $150, including paint. I have all the furniture I need and I’m using a duvet cover that I’ve had since my first apartment out of college. I still love it and the colors… so that $150 has to pay for curtains, paint and décor.
The Color My World Challenge starts next Tuesday, April 1st. I’ll be sharing my Inspiration for the Guest Room!

I can certainly feel your pain. I think the clean-up is harder than the actual work. That's whats great about being paid to do the work...you never have to really clean-up the mess just create it!
ReplyDeleteI am so so so so glad that previous owners didn't try to cover up the cracking ceiling plaster with popcorn!
ReplyDeletemmmm kettle corn! YUM.
ReplyDeleteand eew on the ceilings, yes, but you guys knocked it out!
uggghhhh ceilings are the WORST. You'll be glad you started with the messy stuff so that then you never have to move out the pretty stuff and it can be perfect from the beginning!
ReplyDeleteFound your blog via the Blog Hop. I’m your newest GFC follower!

I love the comparison of ceilings and kettle corn...seriously, I can eat kettle corn all day long (c: They have the best kettle corn at the Phx zoo here...now I want to go to the zoo! I can't wait to see your projects for the challenge!!!
ReplyDeleteYay! Such an improvement even while it's unpainted. I think this is one of the best updates you can make in a room for zero dollars.
ReplyDeleteI hate popcorn ceilings too! My Grandma has 'glittery' popcorn ceilings {I loved them as a kid... OK I still kinda do, I mean they are glittery for heavens sake! and I LOVE glitter LOL} OH MAN that is a lot of 'crappy' work! You will LOVE when it is done though!
ReplyDeleteOH and thanks for the sweet note about my house numbers!!! I LOVE that blue too!!! I am obsessed with it!
XOXO
Andrea
Holy cow...brave lady. I do not even want to paint my ceiling!
ReplyDeletemy parents' house has them in EVERY ROOM (almost 15). I think mom even painted the popcorn once. Is that possible? They literally laughed (in shock) when I told them that you tackled an entire room in one night!! As Ashlan would say "you need to go girl!"
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see how your room turns out. I'm redoing my bedroom, and boy, do I feel your pain on "it gets worse before it gets better." Ugh.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, that looks like quite the project :(
ReplyDeleteAlthough that's going to be a serious transformation for only $150 when you are done.
I can't wait to see how this turns out! So happy to have you join the challenge!
ReplyDeleteWow. That is one of the projects that absolutely sucks while you are doing it but in the end you will be happy it is over. Goodbye popcorn!
ReplyDeleteOoh I'm kind of jealous, I wish we were scraping the poopcorn off our ceilings. No that's not a typo, that's what I call it. ;) I have no clue what I'm doing yet but I'm excited for the challenge and looking forward to knowing you better!
ReplyDeleteI missed this last week?? How did that happen? We have those darn popcorn ceilings and you won't believe what I have resorted to get rid of it. You'll see when I post the master reveal. But anyways...thanks for linking up. Sorry I am so stinking late!
ReplyDeletefeatured this post on the Stinky Linky tonight!
ReplyDeleteThat is one tough job - how psyched are you that it's behind you??!! it already looks good and you rock for getting it done!!!
