Master Bedroom Reveal!

It’s finally here. It feels like I’ve been working on this room forever, but in realty it’s only been about 2 months. No matter what I do, these projects always seem to have a layer of dust coating everything when we’re working in a room. When that room is my bedroom, it drives me very nearly crazy.

BEFORE (which we lived with for 8 long months):
Moving (10)
I failed miserably on getting lots of before pictures. I only have one that I took on the day we moved in. Though, to be completely honest, this is exactly how it looked from the day we moved in to the day we started the makeover 8 months later… except it gradually got worse. We stored a lot more under than the bed than just the suitcases.

TIP: if you’re going to use hideous stilts to add storage under your bed… make sure there’s a way to cover the stilts and the storage. It’s not particularly attractive.

Notice anything missing? After the curtain fiasco (read about that HERE), I got the new curtain in and still hated it. I think eventually we’ll add a valance to that window. For now, everything competes with the stencil and that’s the only window in this room. The curtain pulled to the side blocked a ton of light, which I don’t want to do.

You can see the full stencil on the wall behind the bed, but here’s a closeup (read how I did the stencil differently HERE).

Most of the work in this room went into paint, sewing pillows and crown molding. I think the crown molding makes such a huge difference in this room. My husband did an awesome job.

The bed took a lot of my time. My father-in-law gave me the bedding and standard shams for my Christmas present and I love it! I made the Euro shams, the bed skirt and the throw pillows.

Here’s the view from the other side of the room:

That picture is super grainy for whatever reason. I’m not sure professional photography is in my future.

This the view from the bed:

I bought the lamp for $2 at a garage sale, spray painted it and then found out it was worth $1200 before spray paint (read more about that HERE). Good thing I like it.

The mirrors came from Ashley Furniture when I had a Groupon. I love those mirrors. They were just the right size for that space.

This jewelry holder may be my favorite craft project so far and apparently one of yours too. It’s the 2nd most read post ever on this blog (read the tutorial HERE). I was so bad about hanging up earrings, but this keeps them so organized.

So, one final look BEFORE:
Moving (10)
and AFTER:DSCF2608

I’m definitely pleased with how it turned out.

  6. your new room
    looks really lovely

    and that stencil
    is perfection

    for curtains
you could just drape one panel
to the right of your window
    and another matching panel
to the left of your doorway

    just a thought

    thanks for sharing the beauty
