My White Picket Fence

DSCF3318_thumb1
I’m back from vacation. We had a wonderful week at the lake. Thankfully, the rain held off though it wasn’t as warm as we had hoped. It was still beautiful weather. Definitely no complaints.

Since I haven’t don’t a single thing around the house in a week or so, I thought I’d go back and post about something that I did about 2 months ago but forgot to tell you about.

You may remember back in February,l we took down the fence that separated the two sides of the back yard. The previous owners had the left side of the yard as a dog pen, but we don’t really need that.

Backyard Before (3)
It helped make the back yard feel much bigger:

But now we had this super nice fence that we weren’t using and a horrible, rotting, broken mess of a fence that greeted our guests in our driveway:

Ain’t she a beauty?

So John removed the pickets, kept the existing fence posts and simply hung the new pickets in it’s place.

I’m sure he loves how I make it sound so quick and easy… ya know, he just swapped them out. Easy peasy.

Then I slaved away for hours at painting and sealing the replacement fence. Smile

We bought these copper tops at HomeDepot for $4 each and I love the look of them:

So now I have a white picket fence and maybe one day I'll have my 2.5 children and live the American dream, but the white picket fence is a good place to start.

Eventually, I’d like to plant some climbing roses behind the fence and if I’m lucky (and the Lord miraculously grants me with a green thumb), it’ll look like this:

Wishful thinking? Probably. But I’ll give it a shot anyway. Have you been working outside or is it already too hot where you are?

  1. I love the way the fence turned out! We need to replace parts of our fence, and then I'm hoping to paint it white. But I keep putting it off because it just seems SO daunting. Plus, it's in the 90's now. That's my cue to stay inside ;-)

  2. Who doesn't love a white picket fence???

We did most of our yard work this past month. Today is supposed to be 95 so now all of our hard work with sizzle away.

  3. Looks great! I have dreams of a section of white picket fence at the front of our property...but we'll see - we have to cut down a bunch of trees first!

  8. It is already miserable here as is all summers! I love your sweet picket fence. Your husband did a fantastic job and I believe that you will plant lovely rose bushes to drape over the fence and have the perfect cottage look! :)

  9. Beautiful! I love the copper tops too, what a cool touch. And congratulations to you on all your hard slave labor painting the fence after John quickly and painfully threw up the new posts. :)

  10. I can't imagine how long it took to paint that fence. It looks great though! Last weekend was beautiful where I live, but since then it's been a bit hot so nothing going on outside.

  16. I know what you mean about the lack of greenthumb...but dang girl, you can DIY like nobody's business, so I'm pretty sure you can tackle it! I love the fence! They are just so clean and adorable...especially with those copper caps, so sleek! Love it!
