How to Add Privacy to Windows

SPONSORED POST: Wallpaper for Windows provided the materials for this project. I was not compensated in any other way. All opinions are 100% mine.

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Ours was great, the perfect mix of relaxing and hanging with the family and getting stuff done. While John worked and the mudroom and pretty much finished up, I worked in the Master Bathroom and pretty much finished up in there too! Just a few little things need to be purchased like new bathmats and hand-towels. That's the fun part.

However, the big project in this room this weekend was the Master Bathroom window. I made the valance in 2 hours and it weighs about 1 lb. I LOVE IT! I’ll write a tutorial on that later this week.

Have I mentioned the very interesting window placement in this room? Right over the toilet and directly in front of where you enter the shower. Not ideal. In fact, I think there was something slightly off about our builder because EVERY toilet in the house has a window directly above it. What is that?

So I knew I needed to add some privacy (for the morning runners sake as much as mine). I started researching different options for frosted glass. There are two basic options: frosted glass spray and frosted privacy film. I’ve heard very good things about the frosted glass spray, but I didn’t want a permanent solution. I was worried that I wasn’t going to like it and I wanted to be able to easily remove it. So I looked into some brands of the privacy film.

The big box stores carry privacy film as well, but I only found one that used adhesive and it sounded difficult to remove. Plus you have to cut the sheets yourself to fit your window. I knew that sounded like a bad plan.  The slightest error was going to to be super obvious on the window.

So I contacted Wallpaper for Windows and for the same price (or possibly less, depending on the size of your window) you can get the product PLUS for just $6.50/sheet, they will trim the plastic to fit your window perfectly. That’s so worth it to me. Plus the install was SO EASY.

Here’s what you need:

Yep, that’s it, no adhesive, no cutting, no errors. They provide the “squeegee” but most of you have a credit card, if you misplace it. (The sudsy water is mostly water with 3-4 drops of dishwashing soap added).

1. Spray the window with the sudsy solution.

2. Peel off the film and apply it to the wet window. Get it into the corners.

3. Spray the film with the sudsy solution and use the squeegee to get rid of the bubbles. That’s it.

And now I don’t have to worry about getting spotted by runners going by my house every morning while I’m getting in or out of the shower. Nice, right? And I love that, unlike blinds, it lets in plenty of morning light. I used the “Lite Frost Privacy Window Film.”  Plus, if I ever get tired of it, removal is as simple as peeling it off. No residue, no scrapping. I'm definitely planning on doing this to the other bathrooms.

  4. We have a window next to our toilet, too, that is currently covered in our particular choice of privacy: an old piece of fabric that has pieces cut out of it. We are classy. Your solution is much better. ;)

  7. Good to know for future reference. I like that it's not glued or sprayed on. Do you know how well it does at providing privacy at night when it's dark out and light inside?

  13. I need to do something like this for my girls bathroom. They have a gorgeous oval window in their. Yes, right now they are short but soon they'll grow and everyone will get an eyeful (like the people running by your house)! So I better get on that soon!

  15. This is awesome as I need to do something to two windows and I was non-committal as well so I didn't want to use anything permanent.
