Checking in on my 2012 Goals

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend. I  had such a fun weekend. My sweet family celebrated my birthday with me, I went maternity clothes shopping with my Mom, went to my future sister-in-law’s lingerie shower and then had a lazy Sunday. It could be a recipe for a perfect weekend.

How is it August already? We’re more than halfway through the year, so I thought it was time to see how I stand on my New Year’s resolutions since I only have 5 months to wrap them all up. Here’s my original resolutions:

BLOG Resolutions for 2012:
  1. Hit 350 followers by my 1 year blogiversary in April.
  2. Start having guest bloggers in January! Email me or leave a comment if you’re interested.
  3. Hit 500 followers by 2013.
  4. Most importantly, I’d like to stop comparing my blog to other blogs. I want this to be a creative outlet for me, not a job. In order to do that, I have to let it be me and grow at it’s own pace.
***I might need to work on that last one a little more, but I will say that after Haven, I made the decision to let my blog grow naturally and that has taken a lot of pressure off.
Personal Resolutions for 2012:
1. Stop biting my nails. This has been on my list for the past 20 years (sad, I know). I successfully did it last year and then we moved and all of the painting, nailing, scraping, etc ruined the nails and I started biting again.
***FAIL! I have stopped twice this year… third times the charm?

2. Save as much money as possible this year. My husband will be quitting his job in March to finish up his schooling which means we’ll go to a single income family. Per Dave Ramsey: “Live like no one else so later, you can live like no one else.”
***We’ve been doing well on this. John will finish up his Masters in November, so we have 4 more months of a single income and hopefully the Lord will provide the perfect post-school job for John.

Home Resolutions for 2013: 1. We have a lot of work to do outside including but not limited to:
  • removing some trees in the backyard(sad) – I talked John out of this for the time being. Yay!
  • replacing our fence

  • adding some privacy trees
  • adding 2 columns to the front of the house
  • painting the shutters
  • painting the front door (again) – not sure that this or the shutters will get done this year
  • reseeding the lawn (again). – fall project
2. Rooms I’d like to update:
  • Master Bedroom

  • Guest Room

  • Entry way
***We decided to tackle the Master Bathroom instead of the Entry Way. Though I’d still like to get this done this year.

However, there are a couple other rooms that are going to take precedence over the Entry Way now:
  • Guest Bathroom
  • THE NURSERY!
Can you tell I'm excited about the nursery? I’ll tackle the Guest bathroom next though since I don’t really need to finish the Nursery until January. We have pretty much decided not to find out the sex of the baby (or so we think, but who knows what will happen when we actually go for the 20 week ultrasound). So that makes the nursery slightly more difficult since it’ll have to be gender neutral and I will not have a beige nursery. Check out some of my Nursery pins and let me know if you have a favorite. On the other hand, not finding out means that I can go ahead and plan the nursery without having to wait until after 20 weeks.

  1. Your house looks so great! I love the idea of not finding out the gender of your baby, I'd like to think I'll have the willpower to wait when the time comes, but we'll see!

  2. It's great that you are crossing some things off your list! it makes you feel so much better! We are a 40+ year married couple and we have practiced being thrifty for all those years. I've never attended a Dave Ramsey conference but my daughter has and she said "Mom, it was the same stuff you and Dad kept telling us"...too funny. There are LOTS of ways to save money and it's a GREAT habit to form. When we finally get the new batch of kids out the door, we will be able to live a comfortable retirement thanks to our willingness to make sacrifices now. God is in control but His instruction to us means we have to work in partnership with Him....not living life with a careless attitude hoping that He will "bail us out" in the end. The tortoise wins the race even though the hare is much flashier and SEEMS to have it all....you're doing the better thing...!

  3. You are going to be a very busy gal the rest of the year. Don't forget to take time to rest and relax. Creating a nursery is so much fun! I created a nursery in one of my spare bedrooms for my first grandson. I had the prettiest shade of yellow on the walls and a border of Beatrice Potter, Peter Rabbit around the room, sweet little animals and an old top that had a train in it. When you pushed down the handle the train went around and around and made a sound like a train. It was so sweet! You are going to have so much fun!!

  6. You are kicking 2012's hiney.

I'm always amazed by people who wait to find out the sex. I'm way too type A for that business. :) I'll check out your nursery board later and give you unsolicited advice. :)

  15. Look at you and all your awesome goals accomplished! I'll tell you, and this might sound totally gross, but when I was prego, I stopped biting my nails mainly because it grossed me out to think about my baby getting those germs... Told you, gross. I know you might not eat the nails, but still some germs stick around.
