Bad Idea #1: I didn't take any before pictures so I’m stuck with the pictures from listing when we bought the house. Awesome right?
I
In my defense, everything in this room is pretty much done other than a new shower curtain, new towels and new paint.
Bad Idea #2: I thought it was going to be a easy project. NEVER EVER SAY THAT. It always leads to bad things.
So far, this has been a pain. I had to sand down all the walls because those diamonds had some serious ridges and would be pretty obvious. Then 2 coats of Kilz and 1 coat of white paint later, I still need another coat of white paint before I start in on the stripes.
Plus, the beadboard and all the cabinets look nice and painted in the picture but in reality they were only primed and very streaky, so I've done a coat of white on those.
So now the plan is to get the painting done this weekend, skip the towels and shower curtain (because I have to make the curtain) and move on to the nursery. My goal is to get the bathroom done and the nursery painted by next week.
Bad Idea #3: Trying to get two rooms painted in a week while you’re 5 months pregnant. Ha!
But here’s the thing, my husband’s sweet family is giving me a really nice glider which he is going to pick up next week and I’d really like to be able to move it into a painted room so that I don’t have to move it back out.
Meanwhile, thanks so much for all the helpful comments on Facebook and on the blog last week about my Baby Registry Dilemma. You are all wonderful!

Perhaps you're in a funk but you also have pluck, continuing to work despite all the surprises of extra steps. I know it will feel so good to have these two rooms done and be able to sit some in that glider, and dare I suggest to eat some bon-bons while gliding. I hear you on the frustration of multiple paint coats for coverage and will just share that I recently tried BM Aura paint for the first time and it guarantees coverage in two coats from any color to any color ... it was wonderful. Saved lots of time. Totally eliminated the frustration factor. Cost more but there's always trade-off's ;) Happy painting Mars.
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to your "easy" projects that don't turn out quite so easy! I think it's a rare miracle when almost any project comes off without a hitch. Hang in there girl, and take your vitamins and eat your Wheaties...you've got big plans! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, those sneaky "easy" projects! Does such a thing even exist?? Maybe that whole nesting thing will kick in and you'll be a project-finishing maniac before baby is born. I painted my master bedroom the night before I went into labor. Hmmm, you would have thought I would have noticed a nesting theme in there somewhere, right? Sometimes I'm a little slow on the uptake. ;-)
ReplyDeletethose projects will be over before you know it! just push on through! :) and they will look amazing and you will feel SO much better after.
ReplyDeleteYou're a trooper! I don't know that I could tackle half that...without a big ol' baby belly!
ReplyDeleteYou're allowed to be in a funk. And soon, your baby can help you sand and paint. ;)
ReplyDeleteI know you'll finish the nursery painting and decorating in time its just not in your DNA not to finish it. HAH I'm looking forward to seeing the finished nursery. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed that you are getting your baby bathroom done before you have your baby. My daughter is 8 months old and I still don't have her bathroom done. Do it now! It doesn't get any easier once the baby is here!
ReplyDeleteGrrrr, I hate when those "easy" projects turn into a bigger headache than you could have imagined! I remember when I set out to paint stripes in our hall bath. I couldn't believe how much time it took just to tape things off. I pretty much didn't stop the project until it was done because I knew I wouldn't want to pick it up again another day haha. And then I did the same thing with our hallway stenciling. Ahhhh, us and our silly ideas hehe.
ReplyDeleteGood luck getting all the painting done! :)
Definitely not in a funk! You're accomplishing so much and doing a fantastic job! :)
ReplyDeleteThis post is making me so anxious to work on my bathrooms!
Why do you want to say bad ideas? Your ideas are really good and the changes you have done are perfect. I’m sure you will do the nursery painting also in a creative way and I hope to see the pictures in future.
ReplyDeleteYep, the easier it seems, the tricker it will be. That's just a fact of life! You're pretty ambitious to tackle these both at once but I know you'll kill it and turn out something gorgeous!
